Lighting Installation
Good lighting transforms a space. Whether you want recessed lights for a clean modern look, under-cabinet LEDs in your kitchen, landscape lighting for your yard, or a dimmer system to control the mood in every room, proper installation is essential for both aesthetics and safety. Our electricians install all types of residential and commercial lighting — from a single fixture replacement to a complete whole-house lighting redesign.
Types of Lighting We Install
We install recessed (can) lights for clean, modern illumination; pendant and chandelier fixtures; under-cabinet kitchen and workspace lighting; LED retrofit and conversion from older fixture types; dimmer switches and smart lighting controls; landscape and outdoor lighting for pathways, accents, and security; bathroom vanity and exhaust fan/light combinations; commercial and office lighting systems; and motion-activated security lighting. We work with fixtures you provide or help you select the right option for your space.
LED Conversion and Energy Savings
Switching to LED lighting is one of the simplest ways to reduce your home energy use. LED bulbs use 75% less energy than incandescent bulbs and last 25 times longer. For homes with older recessed cans, fluorescent fixtures, or halogen track lighting, we can retrofit your existing housings with LED-compatible trim or replace fixtures entirely. In California, new lighting installations must comply with Title 24 energy standards, which effectively require high-efficiency lighting in new construction and major renovations.
Smart Lighting and Dimmer Systems
Modern dimmer switches and smart lighting systems give you control over brightness, color temperature, and scheduling. We install Lutron Caseta, Leviton Decora Smart, and other smart switch platforms that integrate with popular home automation systems. Dimmer switches also extend bulb life and reduce energy consumption. For whole-house control, we can set up scenes that adjust multiple lights with a single command or schedule.
Outdoor and Landscape Lighting
Well-designed outdoor lighting improves your home's curb appeal, safety, and security. We install pathway lights, uplighting for trees and architectural features, deck and patio lights, security floodlights with motion sensors, and post lights. All outdoor wiring is done with weatherproof components and proper burial depth for underground runs. We also install low-voltage transformer systems for landscape lighting that is energy-efficient and safe.
What Affects the Cost
- Number of fixtures being installed
- Whether new circuits or wiring need to be run
- Accessibility — attic access simplifies recessed light installation
- Type of fixtures (basic recessed vs. chandeliers vs. outdoor rated)
- Smart switch or dimmer system complexity
- California Title 24 compliance requirements for new installations
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does recessed lighting installation cost?
The cost to install recessed lights depends on the number of lights, whether there is attic access above the installation area, and the complexity of the wiring. As a general range, expect $150 to $300 per light installed, including the fixture, wiring, and switch. We provide exact pricing after evaluating your space.
Can you add lights without running new wiring through walls?
In many cases, yes. If there is attic access above the room, we can run new wiring through the attic and down into the ceiling without opening walls. For rooms without attic access, some wall work may be required, but we minimize it by using existing pathways and junction boxes wherever possible.
Do I need a permit to install new light fixtures in California?
Simple fixture replacements (swapping one fixture for another on an existing circuit) generally do not require a permit. However, adding new fixtures, running new circuits, or installing recessed lights where none existed before does require a permit in most California jurisdictions. We handle the permit process for you.
What is California Title 24 and how does it affect my lighting?
Title 24 is California's energy efficiency standard. For lighting, it generally requires high-efficiency fixtures (LED or equivalent) for new installations and major renovations. If you are adding new lighting, replacing more than 50% of the fixtures in a room, or remodeling, the new installation must comply with Title 24. We ensure all our lighting work meets these requirements.
